You will no doubt have already noticed the rise in product prices in supermarkets. At l’Unique, however, we always promise you competitive prices in the shop and at the pump. Make a focused list when you go shopping. Such lists make you much more aware of what you really need, which will make you buy less on impulse and do more budget cooking.
Prepare larger portions and then freeze them. That way you have less waste and buying products in large quantities is often cheaper.
Keep a calendar on which you write what you will eat each week. That way, you won’t be tempted by extras and keep the bill down.
Use the internet and l’Unique’s blog for inspiration. It is free and we are happy to give you the tastiest and cheapest tips to put delicious and healthy meals on the table and to cook on a budget. For example, we are happy to explain the healthiest yet tastiest sandwich fillings!
It’s in the little things: not only with your ingredients can you pay attention to prices, even while cooking you can already reduce the price. For instance, don’t turn your fire to the highest setting, but to a moderate temperature. Cooking may take a little longer, but your electricity or gas bill will thank you. Also, turn off the fire about five minutes before your dish is ready. This is because the fire will stay hot for a long time, so your food will continue to cook without consuming energy.
Cook with your leftovers
Try to get creative with food. For example, do you have some rice left over or did the children not finish their portion? Then take it to work yourself for lunch, for example. You can always freeze bread or make a tasty bread pudding from it.
Take stock of what you have in the house
From pasta to rice to meat in the freezer, know what you have in the house and make that your weekly menu. That way you are less likely to buy things at the shop that you have anyway and need to run out. Perhaps our most important tip when budget cooking!
